Claus Carstensen
Claus Carstensen is a painter and installation artist educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1983. From 1993-2002, Carstensen was a professor at the Academy. Carstensen was an integral part of the Danish painters in the 1980s labelled ‘the young wild ones’ (inspired by their German counterpart Junge wilde). He takes a critical stand in his work, often closely connected to contemporary philosophy and literature. Besides his interest in literature, Carstensen has published essays and poetry and expanded his work to cover film and music. Carstensen was the 2004-recipient of the Eckersberg Medal.
