Søren Martinsen

Through his artistic career, Søren Martinsen has worked with painting, photography, installation, and video art. His projects often reflect an interest in alternative society forms and lifestyles. His videos examine escapism and social utopias, for instance portraying The Christiania Community and Roskilde Festival in Denmark. In the latest years, Søren Martinsen has created a series of paintings depicting the Danish landscape in a naturalistic, but psychedelic way. Martinsen graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1995 and was the artistic director of the exhibition venue Overgaden – Institute for Contemporary Art from 2003 to 2006. He has contributed to a wide range of exhibitions in Denmark and abroad, lately a solo-exhibition called “Country Song” at Statens Museum for Kunst.
