It is also known for having acquired other social networking and communication services such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. The company generates nearly all of its revenue through selling advertisement placements to marketers.

Facebook, Inc. is headquartered in Menlo Park, California. It also has its London headquarters in Fitzrovia, Central London, and offices in Ireland and India to house its online advertising and developer support teams. As of 2021, the company has over 60,000 employees and 16 data centers around the world.

Facebook, Inc. went public in 2012 on the NASDAQ exchange with a share price of US$38. In 2021, it has a market cap of US$926.722 billion. The company is part of ‘FAANG’, an acronym used in finance technology that refers to the stocks of the Big Five companies in the US information technology industry: Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google. Facebook trades under the ticker 'FB', and the company's controlling shareholder is its founder Mark Zuckerberg, with main shareholders being Vanguard, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, and BlackRock.
